Why do we all love the happy-smiley assasin so much? Well here are some of the reasons why Seta Soujirou is one of my favorite characters in RK. All that follows is just my humble opinion so please don't take it too seriously. To each his or her own is a philosophy I live by *grins* By the way, this section contains a tiny amount of spoiler material. You have been warned ^_^

The Looks
Whatever you may say about Soujirou, you've got to admit that the boy is absolutely adorable! And I don't mean just the nineteen year-old version, but even as a child the guy was too cute for words! I suppose that's due to Watsuki Nobuhiro's wonderful talent as an artist and all. And have you ever noticed that he's the one character besides Kenshin who manages to stay color-coordinated throughout the series? And I've always been partial to blue...

The Personality
People always say that a smile is a hundred times better than a frown, and I suppose Soujirou is living proof of that. The guy is constantly smiling and always seems so happy that it's difficult not to like him. He just doesn't look like a cold-blooded killer at all! I know tons of Kenshin fans love the fact that he's so humble and polite, and I've noticed that Soujirou's manners slightly resemble our favorite Rurouni's (it must be a trademark of a skilled assasin or something ^_~). I find his attitude and self-effacing manner utterly endearing.

The Trauma
I've been told I have a soft spot for traumatized anime men. And I suppose it's true if you take a look at the list of my favorite anime characters - Kenshin, Soujirou, Mikagami Tokiya, Shirou Kamui, Sumeragi Subaru, etc. What a list! There's just something about guys with a tragic past that seem to tug at your heartstrings, and of course the handful of episodes during the Kyoto arc showing Soujirou's terrible childhood totally got to me. I think I found myself wanting to run up to chibi-Soujirou and give him a huge bear hug and tell him everything's gonna be all right  ^_^  Of course some of my friends say that I have a screw loose for getting worked up over a 2-D character but really...it's Sou-chan after all! *grins*
