This song "It Was" of course does not belong to me. I love this song and its sung by Chely Wright. It just seemed to fit the mood of this song fic for some reason =D All the character of Rurouni Kenshin belong to Nobuhiro Watsuki, Jump Comics, and Sony. I just borrowed them hehe...once again. Oh, Starry Starry Night Before the music starts, the sights and sounds of a Tanabata (yes I love this holiday!) festival in downtown Tokyo can be heard. Children run around merrily holding pinwheels and sweets. Couples walk arm in arm while the sunlight fades into evening, casting pink and purple colors across the sky. A cheerful group can be seen walking down the crowded street, comprised of Kenshin, Kaoru, Aoshi, Misao, Sanosuke and Megumi.
I guess we guess our way through life How many times do we really know for sure?
[flashback to earlier that evening] The three men wait inside the dojo for the women to get dressed. Sano paces in agitation, grumbling about vain foxes while Kenshin smiles patiently. Aoshi remains impassive as ever, sitting cross legged with eyes half closed in a semi-meditative state. All three men gape in surprise as the women file out of Kaorus room. Kaoru is wearing a navy blue kimono embroidered in silver, complete with a matching ribbon holding up her hair. Megumi, in a dazzling red kimono, tosses her braided hair in annoyance as she glares at Sanosuke for rushing them. Misao fumbles awkwardly with the fan in her hand, looking strangely grown up in a purple kimono and her hair pulled up in a neat bun.
I was just hoping for the best Then I woke up in those loving arms of yours
[back at the festival] Kaoru laughs in delight as she watches a group of singers performing, and Kenshin looks at her sideways with a happy grin on his face. Misao energetically drags Aoshi off to check out the food vendors further down the street. Sano discreetly follows Megumi as she stops to greet an elderly man whom she once treated. The old man cheerfully asks Megumi if Sano is her boyfriend, causing Megumi to walk off in a huff while Sano follows with a cocky grin on his face.
What I felt was unmistakable When I fell for you
Kaoru glances at Kenshin, asking if he likes her new kimono. He nods with a customary goofy smile on his face, causing Kaoru to sigh quietly and turn back towards the singers. Kenshin looks at the young woman beside him uneasily, wanting to say something more but unsure how to proceed.
It was real, it was magic It was calm, it was savage It was cool as a breeze, it was warm to the touch It was never enough, it was always too much
Misao happily picks up a large amount of candy from a street vendor. Reaching for her money pouch she pulls out some coins, but her face crumbles as she realizes there isnt enough money. A small, barely noticeable smile lifts the corner of Aoshis mouth as he reaches into his own sleeve, dropping some extra coins into Misaos palm. The young girl smiles excitedly and gives a loud, exuberant thank you, her heart in her eyes.
It did all the things love does Thats how I knew it was
Sanosuke and Megumi sit across from each other at a nearby restaurant, Sano having convinced Megumi to buy him another meal. As the waitress brings the food and sets it in front of the pair, the gangster eagerly digs in while the young doctor looks on in exasperation. Looking up from his bowl, Sano suddenly picks up a piece of sushi with his chopsticks and reaches across the table, putting it on Megumis plate. The two make eye contact and hastily look away.
Who thought that I could laugh so loud Then turn around and cry so many tears
Kaoru looks longingly at Kenshin as both of them stand on a bridge overlooking a river. After a long moment of silence, the red-headed swordsman turns to the woman beside him and hands her a small wrapped package. Kaorus blue eyes widen as she unwraps the paper to reveal a pair of hair combs ornamented with butterflies.
I used to have so many doubts, But one by one you made them disappear
Impulsively Kaoru reaches for Kenshins hand and whispers a soft thank you. Violet eyes grow wide and Kenshin flushes a deep red, then smiles in embarrassment, but he makes no attempt to pull his hand away.
What I found was unbelievable But I believe its true
Sanosuke and Megumi leave the restaurant, the two walking in companionable silence. They continue to glance at each other, looking away as soon as they make eye contact. Sano wonders about the reason for the fox ladys silence while he admires how beautiful she looks. With a wicked grin he makes a teasing remark and Megumi immediately does the same. The two bicker good-naturedly as they walk down the street.
It was real, it was magic It was calm, it was savage It was cool as a breeze, it was warm to the touch It was never enough, it was always too much
Misao plays a game of tag with a group of local young children while Aoshi watches on. He calls out for her to be careful, but she merely waves at him and tells him not to worry. However, as she rushes past Aoshi in pursuit of a small boy, her ankle twists and Misao finds herself falling to the ground. Suddenly a pair of strong arms grab her from behind.
It did all the things love does Thats how I knew it was
Unable to walk, Aoshi lifts Misao up in his arms and heads back toward the dojo. Misao protests, telling him shes fine. But as Aoshi sets the young ninja on her feet, she immediately pitches forward. With a sigh that doesnt quite reach his eyes, he again lifts the girl into arms and continues walking while Misao flushes in embarassment.
You asked what I felt when you walked through the door Was it fear, was it clear, it was all that and more
Megumi stops walking to put her hands on her hips and glare at the annoying gangster following her. Sanosuke returns her glare with a careless smile, something unfamiliar in the depths of his brown eyes. With a sigh Megumi whirls around, turning her back on him, but Sano reaches out to grab her hand, pulling her against his chest.
It was real, it was magic It was calm it was savage It was cool as a breeze, it was warm to the touch It was never enough, it was always too much
Kenshin continues to hold Kaorus hand as they make their way across the bridge. The darkness of night is illuminated by many stars, and Kenshin stops to look and point up at the sky. Kaoru smiles softly, following his gaze. After a moments hesitation, she gives his hand a tug and leans up on her tiptoes
It did all the things love does Thats how I knew it was
[Split screen showing all three couples at once] Aoshi looks down Misao, who is asleep in his arms. She shifts slightly, snuggling more closely to her beloved Aoshi-sama with a quiet murmur. A real smile drifts across Aoshis face, and he bends his head to give her a quick kiss on the forehead.
Sanosuke looks into Megumis shocked face, his arms locked loosely around her waist. Before he can change his mind, he pulls her close and lowers his head to hers, kissing her passionately.
Kaoru gives Kenshin a swift kiss on the cheek and quickly steps away. She turns around and quickens her steps toward the Kamiya dojo. Kenshin stares after her retreating form with an amazed smile, gently lifting his hand to his face.
Thats how I knew it was
