Megumi and Kenshin

Okay, this is a point that can be well-argued (and quite strongly). I won't say that Megumi doesn't have any feelings for Kenshin. It's clear that she does, since she's constantly flirting with him and cries because he leaves for Kyoto without saying good-bye. Afterwards, she even rushes off to the Aoiya to fix up his wounds without any question. However, I don't think what Megumi feels for Kenshin can really be called love. Most of her behavior is just an act to tease Kaoru, I think. Even though she might have had some hopes of making him fall in love with her, by the time the Kyoto arc comes to a close I strongly believe she has decided to put it all behind her. It's obvious that Kenshin's heart has only Kaoru in it, and she accepts that. I've said it once and I'll say it again - Megumi's too darn smart to be pining after a guy who could never return her feelings.

Sanosuke and Sayo

I'll come right out and admit that I *loathe* Sayo. So if you're a fan of hers, then I'd suggest not reading further if you think my opinions might make you turn violent. Watching the anime, it seems that Sano's quite taken with Sayo. But the Sano-Sayo thing could NEVER work out. First off, Sayo's too much of a girly-girl to tame a bad ass guy like Sano. She's also too uptight and righteous for her own good - in short, she's a snob and a hypocrite to boot and Sanosuke would never tolerate her condescension. Plus, it irks me to see her try and take Megumi's place (the scene where she fixes up his hand makes me want to do her some serious injury). I think Sano's feelings toward Sayo are probably shallow and short-lived since he never thinks of her after the conclusion of the Shimabara arc. Plus the argument for the Sano-Sayo thing won't really go anywhere since she's already been shot and killed. And to my knowldege, science has yet to discover a way to resurrect the dead, so that's that.

Other Pairings

Unless we plan to discuss the yaoi pairings (which I don't because it would be WAY too complicated), there isn't much left to stand in Sano and Megumi's way. I'm completely against the Sano-Kaoru pairing because it's obvious what he feels for her is more friendly and brotherly than anything else (plus they don't have the chemistry going on). Misao and Sano could be a possibility, but the two of them seem more likely to go out as buddies and raise hell together than to do anything of a romantic nature. As for the Megumi and Aoshi thing, I have to admit they look nice together. But I doubt Megumi will be the one to penetrate Aoshi's icy exterior and she doesn't seem like she'd bother to try anyway after the whole Kanryuu fiasco.

They DO Love Each Other!

It's seems clear to me that the chicken-head and fox-lady have something very non-platonic going on ^_^ When Megumi is accused of being a fraud, Sano goes out of his way to help her. After Sano got beat up by Saitoh, Megumi refused to leave the man's side! Not to mention all the times she's fixed up that hand of his. And during the famous Tanabata episode, Sano's thoughts even drifted to Megumi as he wondered what she was doing that night. It makes me wonder how they could NOT be in love with each other! The sparks are definitely flying in this relationship.
